Game Reviews: Murder Mystery vs Murder

The Mad Murderer fought off Twisted Murderer in last weeks Game Review battle and will be reviewed against the winner of this review in a battle for the Best Murder Game title by ROBLOXia Today. So lets crack on!

MURDER MYSTERY by Nikilis
Note: This game was broken when I played - I couldn't join the game and was stuck on "waiting for character" for around 10 minutes. This review is from memory and no points will be deducted for the game being broken as I'm unsure if its a ROBLOX or Nikilis problem.

Idea: 7/10
Murder Mystery was the first Murder game on ROBLOX that got very popular very quickly, and although its copied from a GMod gamemode this game was original when it came to ROBLOX games.

Gameplay: 7/10
The gameplay here is fun: Its simple too. There are no complicated modes its just 1 Murderer, 1 Sheriff and the rest innocents. There is some customisation although its not a lot but the variety of maps means this game will keep people playing - especially as they wait for their murderer chance to increase!
Environment: 6/10
The environments in this game are varied but very basic. They lack much detail and although you could argue it adds to the charm of the game, I'd like to see some more detailed maps in this game.

Enjoyment: 9/10
This game is very enjoyable. Its so satisfying killing the murderer or the innocents or just running and trying to hide from the Murderer. Nikilis has made this into a very enjoyable game and unlike Murder which I'll review next, it has a large social aspect where people are also discussing who they think the murderer is in the chat - until they die of course!

Scripting: 8/10
The scripting here is well done but the game doesn't look as polished as Murder. Guis in the lobby are on the wall as SurfaceGuis and this just doesn't look as good as the Guis in Clonetrooper1019's game. However everything works well, including the map rotation which players can vote on.

MURDER by CloneTrooper1019

Idea: 5/10
The idea here is of course, unoriginal but is perhaps the truest to the actual GMod gamemode. Everything here is similar including some of the maps and the character customisation is unrivalled in the Murder games world.

Gameplay: 7/10
The gameplay here is fairly satisfying and the gun noises are really satisfying too. In addition to this theres some sounds straight from the GMod gamemode that you can access by pressing q. This is a neat little feature and adds to the polish that this game has. The gameplay here though is limited with few game modes although it would appear that more are coming soon - and some may already exist but I never saw any.
Murder also has two big differences to other games: Bystanders can have guns and you can collect props from around the maps - get 5 and you get a gun.

Environment: 8/10
The environments here are very carefully constructed and look really good. They are true to the GMod maps (if they are from GMod) and otherwise they are very nice. I really liked the re-purposing of Carentan in this game.

Enjoyment: 5/10
There is one major downfall to Murder and is this - it isn't very atmospheric and no-one ever speaks. Although I was in a server of only 3 people at one point, I've played this game before and its very rare anyone speaks and the only sounds you hear are of guns. Its very anti-social and thats something that other Murder games are better at.
Another criticism I have of this game is that there is no map rotation. You have to leave the game and rejoin the hub to get to another map. I'd like to see map voting at the end of a round and although the system as it currently is maybe something to do with the lag of loading these maps - it does mean you have to waste time leaving and rejoining games.
The gameplay was pretty fun though and brings up this score to a 5.

Scripting: 9/10
There is some wonderful scripting in this game and its very polished. The hub's GUI is very well scripted and 3D thumbnails - although pointless - are a nice touch.

Game Reviews: The Mad Murderer vs Twisted Murderer

In this new series of reviews, I will be reviewing the main 4 Murder games on ROBLOX. The winner of this versus review and the Murder Mystery vs Murder will go to a final review, where they will be ranked against different criteria... so without further or do...

THE MAD MURDERER by loleris

Idea: 4/10
The idea of this game is not original. Its as simple as that. Despite this, it does earn some credit for having a Murderer Madness mode which does spice up the game.

Gameplay: 8/10
Gameplay here is very fun, you know what to do - someone is the murderer, someone is the sheriff and the rest are innocents. The gameplay is simple and every so often there's a "Murderer Madness" round where everyone is the murderer, and this spices up the game a little bit to stop it from becoming repetitive.
Environment: 6/10
The environments here are fairly interesting but theres only 5 and so you end up playing them a lot. They aren't very detailed either and the game could seriously do with some more maps.

Enjoyment: 8/10
This game is pretty enjoyable. There is a deep satisfaction to being the murderer and winning, or saving all those innocents when you're the Sheriff. There are game passes available for outrageous prices that can make you the murderer more often and this is one negative of the game. The game seems pretty enjoyable though so I'll give it a 8.

Scripting: 9/10
The scripting in this game is very good and is almost faultless. There are some issues, most notably with the lag during the intro that causes the sounds to all play over each other. The intro itself though is nicely done and this game has good scripting polish.

TWISTED MURDERER by Taymastar

Idea: 6/10
Although the idea is as unoriginal as TMMs, this has SIX modes that really make the game different. Its them modes that meant I rated it a 6/10 for the idea

Gameplay: 7/10
Although theres lots of different modes to play, the game didn't really feel very fun. The way to play the game didn't come as easily as The Mad Murderer and the game didn't seem quite so fluid or polished. The maps are much larger here and sometimes it was a bit boring being the innocent, something that wasn't so true in The Mad Murderer. Theres also some nice features to rank up your player with perks and gun textures etc. Theres seems to be more of these in this game than in TMM.

Environment: 6/10
The lobby is beautiful in this place, but unfortunately the maps are limited. They are quite large but I ended up playing the same one 4 times in a row. I didn't get to see any more than 2 during my time in the game and this meant it was fairly boring and repetitive.

Enjoyment: 5/10
Sadly, the lack of map changes meant this game felt too repetitive and I was bored after just a few rounds of this. Your chance of being the murderer goes up very slowly too and I never got to be the Murderer in my 20 minutes of playing this game. The game needed more action, and the long times waiting for the map to load meant I felt even more bored.

Scripting: 8/10
There are plenty of perks in this game and features that meant this was probably a large undertaking of scripting work. However it doesn't really feel fluid and I found the game was lacking - especially in its long map load times which were unjustifiably long, and the terrible round ending music which was just annoying and didn't feel polished in the slightest. The multiple modes is something this game has that TMM doesn't and does add points.

FINAL SCORES

Idea: 4/10 vs 6/10
TWISTED MURDERER WINS!

Game Review, Hallow's Eve (By LondonzTaDahz)

Ahh, Its that time of year again! The time to go around to your friends house and beg for sweets. Its also time for ROBLOX to improve on last years "game" for Halloween, Lets see what they did this year! I'll be reviewing this game for the Halloween event by ROBLOX.

Idea:8.5/10
This games idea is fun and original at the same time, Although most maps are from popular games (Work at a pizza place, Crossroads etc.) which is okay if they had a short amount of time in which to create the game. The idea of fighting creatures that are trying to destroy a cauldron and the only way to kill them is to throw sweets at them, Its a fun idea on paper but quite boring when you actually play it.

Gameplay: 6/10
The game play gets repetitive after a while and defending a cauldron is similar gameplay to Guest Defence. The only thing that gets players coming back is to get all the badges and hats which come with each monster you kill. Game play typically goes: Kill mobs, Make sure they don't get to the cauldron and then repeat. There is some variety of mobs, Although it does become repetitive and you end up playing the same mob on a different level. The levels are just out of popular games and that is laziness and boring for the player.

Atmosphere: 4/10
The game is meant to be scary, Its a halloween event after all, and is quite spooky but not scary. The use of the music and lighting works great for this game, Although it adds to the spookiness of it and not the scariness.

Environment: 2/10
The environment of the game is basically other popular games, Just a little more spooky. Its not original or fun, Its boring to be honest. There is only one new map, Bloxburg. The environment is just pure laziness and gets boring fast, It can be improved A LOT.

Enjoyment: 5/10
The game has many flaws with the environment, and isn't the best game on ROBLOX. The gameplay is dull and gets repetitive fast. Compared to The Witching Hour, This is better by a while but isn't that  good.

Overall Score: 5.1/10

Game Review: Hallows Eve 2014

Hallows Eve 2014 is finally here, and with the disappointment of last year there is a lot to improve upon. Last years "Biggest Map Ever" proved to be a flop and was. Here I'll be doing a review of the Halloween event.

Idea: 9/10
This is a fun, original idea, and although it uses maps from popular roblox places and some people have noticed that the games idea, which is to defend a cauldron, is similar to Guest Defence. The game though is eerie and the idea of playing through the rounds, fighting different foes and collecting badges and hats is both original and very rewarding.

Gameplay: 7/10
This game provides a fair amount of progression and the main thing that will ensure that people come back often is the badges to collect and the hats that come with them. However the game is quiet repetitive. Defeat the mobs, make sure they don't reach the cauldron, repeat. There is some good variety with the types of mobs that attack you and the scenery but there isn't a massive amount of either and you end up playing the same mobs on the same levels every few rounds.

Atmosphere: 7/10
This game is supposed to be scary, it is Halloween after all, and chiefjustus told us time and time again that it would be scary. It doesn't really live up to all of the hype though. The atmosphere that is created is eerie and spooky but not scary. The music in the game is good and adds to the feel of the place, as does the excellent use of dynamic lighting.

Environment: 6/10
The environments in the game are basically rehashed versions of other games and whilst this provides a nice continuity of the games across the site, it quickly gets boring. Apocalypse Rising, Natural Disaster Survival, Pizza Place, Crossroads, Haunted House and a new map called Bloxburg are featured in the game. The environment here just isn't as inspiring and could definitely be improved.

Enjoyment: 7/10
Despite some flaws with the environment, this game has a good atmosphere and nice progression. It isn't the best game on ROBLOX, not by a long shot, but it is enjoyable to play and thats important. Compared to the slog that was The Witching Hour, this game is a breath of fresh air which will be getting a tonne more plays this year.

Overall Score: 7.6/10

ROBLOX Reviews: After the Flash: Sandstorm vs Military Rescue Mission

Edition #14
Wow, its been almost a month since the last ROBLOX Review! Sorry about that! Hopefully a normal schedule should be running from now until about May/June when I have more exams, but hopefully the other staff members will keep you updated!

Lets crack on with todays reviews!

Idea: 8/10
The idea behind this game seems to be very original though I have seen a similar game before. However, the games actual idea is a bit confused because you have weapons but nothing to use them on, at least, I couldn't find any in 10 minutes of playing.

Gameplay: 6/10
Because I couldn't find anything to shoot the gameplay soon got boring. It lags A LOT too and crashed my laptop 5 times before I could actually play.

Scripting: 7/10
There isn't a lot of scripting as far as I could tell, however it all works well. Such as picking your weapons and getting morphed. It works nicely but there could be more dynamic scripting.

Environment: 10/10
One thing that really catches your eye with this game is the outstanding environment. It is incredibly detailed and is super realistic. Its large and dynamic, however this comes at a price; its 14,000 bricks and alot of lag that comes from that. However, once the game has passed the 5 minute mark the lag drops noticeably.

Enjoyment: 7/10
I think this is a heavily-role-playing place. If you like that kind of thing then you can go around with your friends and shoot imaginary things! (I say that but mobs might exist!) Its also a great environment to explore!

Idea: 6/10
The idea has been used countless times before; rescue people who are fending off Zombies. Although this game is fairly creative with its use of rescue methods. Helicopters, Jets, Boats and more!

Gameplay: 7/10
You need to kill Zombies to survive until a rescue vehicle arrives to take you back to the aircraft carrier. Its fun, but theres nothing special about the zombies or the guns. If you are going to rescue people, fly or drive ashore and rescue them, however, theres not much space to land.

Scripting: 4/10
There is little scripting in this game apart from driving a vehicle, but I've seen the same GUI before. The guns work nicely however.

Environment: 5/10
The environment is a bit lack-luster. Its very plain and boring, however the carrier where the rescuers start is very good looking indeed.

Enjoyment: 6/10
This game could be enjoyed if you played with friends or like rescuing people, however I think that little scripting and a boring environment make the game not very enjoyable.
Final Scores
Idea: 8/10 vs 6/10

ROBLOX Reviews: ROBLOX Base Wars FPS vs Ro-Planes 2

Edition #13

Welcome to another edition of ROBLOX Reviews! I'm running out of things to say here so lets get straight onto the reviews!

Idea: 7/10
Its not that original, but this game made by Games (Owned by ROBLOX) puts a nice twist on classic CTFs on ROBLOX. First of all there are classes and they are really fun to play! The game doesn't lag at all thanks to it all being made out of terrain. Its very detailed and shows off what you can make with terrain.

Gameplay: 8/10
The map is fairly large and fun to explore and fight in. There are 5 different classes each with different weapons and stats. My favourite was the medic, who can heal people in a Team Fortress 2 style.

Scripting: 9/10
There is a fair amount of high quality scripting in this game. The guns are well scripted and so is the leaderboards, capture points and classes. It all works really well.

Environment: 9/10
Like I touched on earlier, this game is made entirely out of terrain. It certainly is very detailed however it could be more detailed using actual bricks, but this still is a great environment for a great game in general!

Enjoyment: 8/10
This game is very enjoyable and I think the great Environment, Scripting and general execution of the idea makes it that way.

Idea: 9/10
On face value this game seems to just be a flight simulator. But when you enter the game you realise it is much more. Essentially you load your plane with crates which you can then sell for money at islands. This money then enables you to fly bigger planes with bigger capacity (one assumes)

Gameplay: 7/10
The game falls down immediately with its game play. Its incredibly confusing to a newcomer. After a few minutes I found out what I had to do, by chance I found the crates. However, flying was a different matter. I never left the beginning island, it was too hard to fly. My controls failed

Scripting: 7/10
The scripting in the game is very good from picking up crates and taking them to your plane to the controls of the plane. However, some of the controls on the plane didn't do what they were supposed to. The A and D keys did not turn my plane so I ended up crashing into a building opposite the hangar and exploding.

Environment: 6/10
As I said, I haven't seen all the environments because it was so hard to fly! However, the first Island is fairly boring with just bricks to create mountains etc. It seems to be a very old way of building, with just bricks and no c-framing

Enjoyment: 6/10
This game could be very enjoyable at the start, where you are delivering cargo and making money. However, going back and forth would be fairly repetitive. However, making money means you can buy access to bigger planes and this advancement in the game might make you play for longer.

FINAL SCORES

Idea: 7/10 vs 9/10
Ro-Planes 2 wins!

ROBLOX Reviews: Nacht Der Untoten vs COR5- Roblox At War: The Zombies!

Edition #12
Hello and welcome to ROBLOX Reviews! Today is another special edition, and we will be reviewing two versions of Zombies, from Call of Duty. Lets crack on!

Idea: 7/10
The idea isn't strictly original, its based on Call of Duty yet it plays well on ROBLOX and feels original.

Gameplay: 8/10
The gameplay is very good, you shoot the zombies with guns. The first few guns feel fairly unresponsive but I think they would require some upgrading to become powerful. There are many upgrades and the game goes in rounds, with each becoming harder until a team loses.

Scripting: 8/10
The scripting in this game is very good also. There are some nice GUIs and the zombies have some very well scripted AIs. The core game is also scripted well too with rounds that get harder and it appears that there are some random events where you can get powerups. One of these happened while I was playing called "insta-kill". One can only imagine it made zombies die with one hit.

Environment: 7/10
The environment seems a bit lack-luster in the game. Everything is very white even though its night outside! It seems to be a big environment but it hasn't got alot of good detail.

Enjoyment: 6/10
This game for me, got boring after a few minutes because it does not seem very responsive in terms of guns. The early guns are very bad. Also, when I was trying to revive someone, the instructions that I got did not work. However, this game would be very fun if you were playing with friends because you would have to stick together to give each other support and stop them from dying!

Idea: 7/10
I don't really think I can give this game any more or less than I gave the other, it is a clone of COD's Zombies but is also executed nicely with some originality in there.

Gameplay: 10/10
The gameplay in this game is very well done, everything works well, looks nice and even the early weapons are good. Its upgrades are cool too! Fog really gives it an atmosphere! It re-creates the COD Zombies feel really well.

Scripting: 9/10
There is alot of scripting in this place. But that isn't the point of this marking point. Its whether or not the quality is good. Here it is. It works amazingly and makes the game what it is, from leaderboards to repairing windows.

Environment: 9/10
The environment here is very good and feels like the COD map. It also looks a bit more intresting than the place I reviewed first

Enjoyment: 8/10
This game is alot more responsive but alot harder, even at round 3! However, it still is really fun to play and might make you stay a bit longer than the first place and if you play with friends you could play for ages!

Final Scores
Idea: 7/10 vs 7/10

Roblox Reviews: Robloxias Best Prison vs DML - Prison Roleplay

Edition #11

Welcome to a special edition of Roblox Reviews. This week, I'll be reviewing two places with the theme of prison!

The first place claims to be the winner already. But will it be? Lets commence the reviews!

Idea: 8/10
The idea for this place is quite original. Your either a police officer or a prisoner and you have to escape, but the police must try and stop you.

Gameplay: 5/10
The gameplay of this game is great. It is very confusing to know where to go and the map seems quite large; your in a police station that is very complex.

Scripting: 4/10
There is not alot of high-quality scripting in this game. It is alot of what seems to be free models and some GUI that aren't great.

Environment: 3/10
The environment in the game is poor. Its very confusing and being a police officer, it is hard to know what to do and where to go.

Enjoyment: 2/10
Its very hard to enjoy this game when you can't find your way around. The prisoners, to my knowledge, don't have anything to fight with whereas the police do, so you are instantly killed if you leave. Also, because the police have full control over everything, you are rarely allowed to leave.

DML - Prison Roleplay by MasterofDeathOnes

Idea: 8/10
The idea is original, as far as I can tell. You roleplay in a Prison. Even if its not original, its still the most popular on ROBLOX.

Gameplay: 8/10
The gameplay is going to be really good if you like Roleplay. Like I said the last time I reviewed a roleplay place; its up to you to decide whether its fun or not because its whether or not you like roleplaying. However, I enjoyed exploring this place without roleplaying!

Scripting: 7/10
There is some nice scripting in this game. The GUI's are nice and theres nice scripting, like telling Prisoners they can go and have dinner. Its very nice.

Environment: 7/10
The environment is very well detailed and perfect to roleplay in. However, it doesn't feel like a prison as such. Maybe I was just looking in the wrong areas...

Enjoyment: 8/10
If you like Roleplay, I think you will like this. I don't particularily like roleplay but I still found this game nice to look around. It's worth a look!

Final Scores
Idea: 8/10 vs 8/10

TIE
Gameplay: 5/10 vs 8/10
DML - Prison Roleplay wins!

DML - Prison Roleplay wins!
Environment: 3/10 vs 7/10

ROBLOX Reviews: ROBLOX Derby vs Lakeside

Edition #10
Hello and welcome to ROBLOX Reviews! Its back! So, lets get on with the places today! Theres been a slight change in ROBLOX Reviews since we last spoke. Now, to make sure we can get out as many ROBLOX Reviews as possible, I'll play each place for 5 - 10 minutes, write up my report and then compare final scores. However, you probably won't notice this change.

Idea: 10/10
The idea for this game is very good and original. Essentially, you drive around and crash into other cars, destroying them for points. Its very cool and addictive, blowing stuff up.

Gameplay: 8/10
The gameplay of this game is very good and original. By bashing into other vehicles you get points and this helps you to level up and unlock better vehicles with different abilities and strengths.
Scripting: 9/10
There is a fair amount of scripting in this game and it all works brilliantly. From regenerating a vehicle to levelling up and unlocking more. And to destroying other peoples vehicles. It works brilliantly.

Environment: 3/10
The environment is the major downfall of this game. It is incredibly boring. Some effort has been put in and there are some ramps, but otherwise its just a large green baseplate. Its not very good at all.

Enjoyment: 8/10
Even though the environment is poor, the game is still very enjoyable to play. It is really fun to go around and destroy everyones vehicles! The scripting works well and you will find yourself playing for ages trying to reach the next level and the next vehicle.

Idea: 7/10
Lakeside is just another RP place.  Its a new game created by playrobot who is, of course, the creator of the famous Robloxiaville. Theres not much difference here, except for the environment. Overall, its an okay idea but its not great

Gameplay: 5/10
If you enjoy roleplay this might be higher, if you don't it might be lower. I don't really mind it, but this place gets a low score because it is incredibly laggy. After a few minutes though it does get a bit easier to walk around...

Scripting: 7/10
The scripting in this game is pretty much the same as in Robloxiaville, so its not exactly new. There are some new graphics though. However, the scripting still works well and is good.

Environment: 8/10
The environment, unlike at ROBLOX Derby, is one of the best things about this game. It is a large town, on the side of a lake. Well, it is called Lakeside.
It has nice detail and is a very good touch to this game, its very realistic so it should be good to roleplay in if you like that kind of thing.

Enjoyment: 6/10
Its not very enjoyable, because the lag might put you off. This rating is purely my opinion. I don't mind roleplay as I said above. Some people might really like this and some might hate it.
