ROBLOX Reviews: Epic Mining 2 vs WipeOut Obby

Edition #7

Welcome to the first ROBLOX Review of the year!
Lets crack straight on with the reviews!

Idea: 10/10
The idea for this game is very original. You mine dirt and eventually find minerals. You can then go and sell these for various upgrades within the game.

Gameplay: 8/10
The gameplay here is very fun and addicting. You will find yourself trying to dig to the bottom of the world, or try and get the maximum amount of minerals. You will probably find yourself trying to get that next upgrade and before you know it; hours have passed.

Scripting: 10/10
This game has excellent scripting. It has data persistence so you can save your data, a welcome screen with music and in general, this game has alot of great scripting which works perfectly! When you mine a block, blocks around you are created, so the game is near infinite! (And doesn't lag!)

Environment: 7/10
The enviroment above the mine isn't very large. But hey; its not meant to be.
The core of this game is in the mine, so most of the detail is down there. But even then, its just dirt and the occasional colourful mineral. I really do think I am expecting too much. This game is very nice, but a bit more enviroment would not go amiss.

Enjoyment: 8/10
This game is very enjoyable and addictive. The scripting definately helps make you want to stay, as it works perfectly and adds some create functionality to the game. The game in general is fantastic and is well worth a play!

Idea: 8/10
Okay; its an obby. However, this obby is different. Its based off that TV Show Wipeout. Or if you live in Britain; Total Wipeout. This game is a nicely executed idea, and even if you don't like obbies, maybe you should give this a try, especially if you like the show!

Gameplay: 6/10
Unfortunately, the game play is exactly what you would expect from an obby. The only difference is that this has obsticles from Wipeout. This sort of makes the game fun, but the gameplay isn't amazing.

Scripting: 7/10
Again, this is much like any other obby. There is minimal scripting. There are checkpoints that save your position without putting you into teams. It seems that alot of this game is based of ROBLOX physics, which is okay but more scripting would be nice. There are some traps where balls come down and try and knock you off, and some conveyer belts but it still seems minimalistic.

Environment: 7/10
The environment is very large, but not very varied. It sort of lives up to the show because there is water underneath you. The environment is mainly composed of some hills and then the obby. I gave it a 7 out of 10 because in an obby, enviroment is an added extra!

Enjoyment: 7/10
This game would be very enjoyable if you watched and liked the TV show. You'd feel as though you were playing it! I think that the enviroment gives it a nice touch and that it would be very enjoyable with friends too. Maybe if there was a timer!

FINAL SCORES

Idea: 10/10 vs 8/10
Epic Mining 2 wins!

Gameplay: 8/10 vs 6/10
Epic Mining 2 wins!

Scripting: 10/10 vs 7/10
Epic Mining 2 wins!

Enviroment: 7/10 vs 7/10
TIE!

Enjoyment: 8/10 vs 7/10
Epic Mining 2 wins!

So, with 4 wins out of a possible 5, the winner is:

Meet: Dactor123

WITH DACTOR123

I met up with creator of 3 famous games; The Dominion Theatre (200K+), The Ro-bowling Game (100K+) and Survive a train Crash Into a House! (130K+). He has amassed over 500,000 place visits and 100,000 profile views.

When did you join ROBLOX and why?

I joined 22nd October 2008 because my brother found it and told me to join. So I did.

What do you think is your best game and why?

My best game so far would have to be my bowling game, I was wasting time on groups and helping other people, meanwhile I was getting better in building and scripting ability.
One day I had an idea for a bowling game. So I knuckled down and got building. I'm one of those people who will take a break from building and think 'whats the point?' and I often give up but this game was different.
I made sure I was building nothing else. I kept thinking about the potential result. I knew what I wanted to have at the end but I wasn't sure how to do it. I was sure that there would be a point in the script where I would have a lack of knowledge and not be able to finish.. so I wrote inspirational comments to myself on the script like --COME ON! YOU CAN DO IT!
It was challenging, but I managed to complete it within a few weeks. I was amazed and because I thought it would fail I hadn't uploaded it to roblox so not many people knew and I wanted it to stay that way until I managed to comb the remaining bugs out and properly release it.

Whats your Favourite Game on ROBLOX and why?

I don't really play many games on roblox. I'm mainly building and playing my own. But I did like Roblox's building game.. It was the Bot. I had this obsesion with the HelperBot. So Cheerful. So Helpful. So Amazing. I used to pretend to build just so I could be near it. Lol jk. But that was an amazing model when it first came out and I never thought I'd be able to create a robot with simular qualities. So if I did have a favourite game that was my favourite game.

Any tips for players out there wanting to be famous?

Well heres the thing about roblox. The players only play if they like the picture. You can have a rubbish game Like an obby but if you have an awesome picture of spongebob people will flock!
But you see people prefer the picture if it is some sort of action scene. If you look at the front page now I bet the mojority of the games show you fake avatars doing something, a house in the middle of exploding or a first person view of the game with a gun. Any game can have an action scene picture. Take Roblox building for example, that is a picture of people building.. Theres something about that, that makes the player want to play. The player wants to come see these people building. The player wants to see these people shooting. The player wants to see the balls rolling into the pins and what happens after that ball hits the pin. The only way to find out is to play. So the tip is, action. Don't just have a picture of a car! make the car tilt have an avatar stand next to the car going crazy. Action makes the picture more exciting and fun. and thats what the people want.

What are you going to be doing soon?

Soon, I'm going to be making new games and finishing other games. Woah thats alot of words. bye now!

Just in from sitetest is a brand new feature for OBC members.
Customiseable themes!

Now you can create your own background that people will see when on your home page. It is unknown whether you will browse the site with the background constantly, though this is likely.

It is causing a stir between BCers as people are now asking why its OBC only.
What do you think about the new feature? Would you pay $19 a month for it?

ROBLOX Reviews: John's Winter Getaway [BrickBattle]

Edition #6

Welcome to the Christmas Edition of ROBLOX Reviews!
Today I am going to review a festive place. Yes only ONE. This was meant to come out on Christmas Eve, but there as a startling lack of places!
I want to talk about the fate of ROBLOXia Today slightly first. Our priority has been first and formost getting news and reviews to you. But we just aren't getting the page views anymore. That is why I am desperately trying to acquire new writers for us. Expect more interviews soon too.

Anyway, lets get on with todays review!

Idea: 10/10

This game is very original and creative. Its a huge room and you are a small player and you can explore what presents John (Or Telamon) is getting. Its wonderfully detailed and very Christmassy. The element of the Brickbattle makes it very fun and cool indeed.

Gameplay: 8/10

In the game, you kill people using a Candy Cane or Snowball Gun and collect badges which are presents. It is fun trying to get these and trying to stop people from getting them also, but the game does get a bit boring after you have collected all the badges. Unless you like fighting of course.

Scripting: 7/10

Even though there looks like there is ambient lighting, there isn't. Its just cleverly placed decals. Still cool though. What? You didn't think Ambient Lighting existed on ROBLOX did you?
Anyway, the game isn't that scripted, but the quality of the scripting that is here is awesome. You can find mystery gifts that give you an item and presents that heal you. All very nice.

Enviroment: 8/10

The enviroment is very large (or you're just very small!) and is full of detail. From cookies to the fireplace; everything here works really well and looks great.

Enjoyment: 7/10

Collecting badges and bloxxing others is really fun but can get boring when you have all the badges. This game needs something to keep you playing. The BrickBattle seems to be an attempt to keep people playing but it too gets boring.

Welcome back!

Hello everyone and welcome back to Robloxia Today! We hope you all enjoyed your Christmas and got what you wanted. I definitely did! So, as I said in my previous post, we will be posting more content over the next year so be sure to check that out. And also, I've been thinking about talking to MasterDaniel about adding a sponsor/affiliate section of the blog where other blogs can join together with us and maybe we do some collaborations with them and such. Who knows? But here is my main question for you guys:
What do you want to see from ROBLOXia today over the next year?
Post your suggestions in the comments below!
So, I'll see you guys next time! Until then, Happy BLOXING!!!
