Road to 100K: Week 2, Day 3

Welcome to Day 3 of this second week, trading my way up to 100K.
Yesterday I couldn't make many trades and I couldn't write the post because I wasn't able to access the internet. However today I am back and I am going to discuss a topic of interest today: Recent Average Prices.

Recent Average Prices (Part 1)

Recent Average Prices is the price that shows you how much a Limited Item is worth in the trading window. It updates quite often and can leave you with a higher priced or lower priced item over time. This can obviously be good or bad. I have done only two trades in the last two days for very small profits and so today, if the R$ total has shot up, or gone down; it will most likely be to do with the RAP.

The RAP of this item has gone up considerably. I traded it last week when its RAP was around 120R$. That was a bad trade and you should really look at the two key figures below:

Firstly, the top line tells you the Recent Average Price, 305R$. The line at the bottom tells you the average price in the last 30 days. It is 221R$, but more importantly, it has increased by 38%. This means that it is a good buy and the RAP is likely to increase because the 30 day average will be pushing up the RAP.

In Part 2: I discuss how else to find a good limited using the graphs and statistics above. And how selling your item before its RAP falls is a good idea - and when to know to sell it.

So in the last two days, my total has reached:

32,524 R$

Oh No! Its fallen by 1260R$! I think that this is down to the dip in price of the Green Flash Shades and Eyes of Everfrost which is now just 3978R$ when it was over 5000R$ before!
See you tomorrow! Looks like I'll need to trade some more and get my RAP higher!

Server Spotlight: Mountain Crater

Welcome to another brand new series on ROBLOXia today. In this edition of Server Spotlight, we take a look at Mountain Crater, a great server maintained by MasterDaniel, where selected players build in a crater which is overshadowed by numerous mountains. Even though this is my place, I will not be biased when talking about it.

This is the thumbnail for the place and it is really cool and dynamic. It is in a good location and shows the most up to date image of the town. That makes it a cool thumbnail. The town features the biggest Wiring University in ROBLOX and a University called the MCU. The town contains all the facilities you'd expect; shops, hotels, housing, hospitals and schools.

What I really like about the game is the virtual economy, players in the game build up cash slowly over time, or by completing jobs for others. It encourages people to work for money and shows them an insight into what the real world it like.

However, tools are hard to come by in this server which is targeted often by griefers. The games received 1,694 visits since it was created and has been often seen with almost full servers of 30 people. Tools are hard to come by and people who ask put themselves at risk of a ban.

Pros:

  • Good looking place with some nice terrain features and buildings to keep people interested.
  • There is minimal griefing, but at the expense of free tools
  • There is an ingame economy
  • There is very little lag
  • Hospitals and other community buildings are good for role-playing

Cons:

  • Tools aren't given out very often
  • There are high brick counts
Overall

This is a nice server that many people will enjoy, if they get tools. However it is still quite enjoyable roleplaying with other players in the schools and hospitals.

Thats it for this edition of Server Spotlight, I hope more are to come! Maybe I will be visiting your personal server next!

Brand New Catalog Launches

Some people have had the new catalog for some time, but for others this is their first sight of the new catalog.

This is the brand new catalog and I think that it looks quite slick and nice. It is a much updated UI and fits the new style that had steadily made its way across the site.
You can also sort items really easily. I wanted to find some Social Items and I could do it in a few quick clicks. Also, I wanted to find some forest items for my character. I searched for it in the box.

As you can see forest items appeared. In fact, items that didn't even include the word forest came up, but they were relevant, like the Green Guardia helm and the Woodland Knight, which says Woodland instead of Forest.

I think that this new catalog is a good improvement to ROBLOX. It looks much more modern, like other pages across the site.

Road to 100K: Week 2, Day 1

Welcome to the second week of Road to 100K!, the daily article where I tell you about my trading system progress. Last time I worked out that I had 32,661R$ tied up in my ROBLOX limiteds. Today I discuss what I've been trading and share with you an epic trade!

Today I have been trading some more of those lower priced items for one bigger item. However I have also sold some large hats for a couple of smaller hats. I've also been taking into account the current selling price of an item and have declined many trades today because of this. Someone tried to trade my Snowman Headrow for another item but the other item had recently fallen in price and it sold for less than its RAP. The Snowman Headrow sells for much more than its RAP. I declined this trade.

Later in the day I got an epic trade which I almost thought was a mistake from the user!

I upgraded what was quiet an undesirable hat in my opinion to a much more desirable and much more expensive hat in just one trade! After I accepted this offer (which generated a profit of 880R$) I got many offers for the Shades. It was a very good deal.

An hour or so before the deadline (which is 8pm - when I stop trading to write this report) I requested more trades and got a really good one. 4 of my items for an item worth 10,000R$ or so. It generated a small amount of RAP profit, but meant I could use the gear on a bigger item, like the Classic Fedora which is very popular. However the deal was unfortunately cancelled before I could accept it! :'(

So, now its time to see how much money I have made today. Its time for the total!

1123R$ profit today, for a grand total of:

                                                      33,784 R$

Road to 100K - Week 1

Hello and welcome to a brand new feature here on Robloxia Today!

I'm looking to get 100,000 R$ by trading my way up from just a starting budget of 5000R$.

I originally bought some limiteds with this money and these are them:

Troll Pet 525
Robot Patriot 300
Moustache Warrior 250
Dark Northern Conqueror 250
Dark Lord 600
Twilight Emperor 599
Mischief Maker 300
The Reckoner 475
Courageous Warrior King 250
Red Monster League Baseball Cap 145
Z Ray Gun 1500

I actually spent 194R$ over, but that is besides the point! I then started to trade my way up. I completed quite a few trades and got rid of 2 or 3 hats to get a more valuable one. Sometimes I traded 1 expensive hat for 4 smaller ones, just so I had some extra "change" that I could spend to make the RAPs a bit closer so the other person was more likely to accept.

Now I have quite a few limiteds, which you can check out on my profile. I have added up their Recent Average Prices (RAP) and so far I have got:

32,661 R$

However, I must add that I did have some quite valuable limiteds before I started trading, however quite a lot of them have been upgraded, and I've made around 1500R$ profit on trades so far! This is now where the work begins! I have 32,661R$ but this is set to go up pretty slowly from now on, after I have included all the limiteds I have.

I hope to see y'all again tomorrow when I will do Week 2, Day 1!
Please leave a comment telling me if you enjoyed this post, or share it on social networks!

Robloxia Today is back!

Hello and welcome to the first post in a long while for Robloxia Today.

While going through my groups, I noticed the fan group again (which you should join here: http://www.roblox.com/My/Groups.aspx?gid=474715) and I was about to close it down to create space before I remembered how good this blog used to be, the traffic it used to get and I felt a bit guilty for leaving it and making it become inactive.

Thats why from today ROBLOXia Today restarts. Theres a few series of articles coming soon such as:

ROBLOX Reviews: Yes, they will be back in the way you know and love, pitting two places with each other and scoring them based on 5 different factors. They will be posted every other weekend.

Trading System Roadtrip: I am aiming to get 100,000R$ worth of hats and items, and you can follow me each day as I round up what I have done on the Road to 100K

ROBLOX Interviews: These will also be back and hopefully more people will be interviewed including some famous faces.

Hat Reviews: These will be back in a renewed format, offering more detail about which hats look the best, could be worth a lot in the future and which hats have a rapidly increasing RAP!

Thanks to all those that have continued to check back with ROBLOXia Today over this quiet period, and hopefully you will be overjoyed to see this post today!

Egg Hunt 2012!

There is word that the egg hunt will begin soon and some of the eggs can already be previewed!

The hunt looks like it will take place here:

This is really eggciting! (Sorry!) and I will do a ROBLOX Review of the game place when the event is over. It is not yet clear whether you will have to search for them or watch them rain down in game.

Have fun!

New Body: Undercover Superhero

Wow, a new body has just been released. I wouldn't normally say "wow" to this but this is special. Why? Its NBC so everyone can buy it! Well if you have the 125 R$ price tag spare.

However, Its April 1st and there is a big reason to believe that this is an April Fools joke. Hopefully it isn't! (Maybe its a double-April Fools joke. A joke of a joke?!) and everyone can enjoy this new package.
One question is raised however; if it is a joke, what will happen to everyone that bought it?

ROBLOX Reviews: After the Flash: Sandstorm vs Military Rescue Mission

Edition #14
Wow, its been almost a month since the last ROBLOX Review! Sorry about that! Hopefully a normal schedule should be running from now until about May/June when I have more exams, but hopefully the other staff members will keep you updated!

Lets crack on with todays reviews!

Idea: 8/10
The idea behind this game seems to be very original though I have seen a similar game before. However, the games actual idea is a bit confused because you have weapons but nothing to use them on, at least, I couldn't find any in 10 minutes of playing.

Gameplay: 6/10
Because I couldn't find anything to shoot the gameplay soon got boring. It lags A LOT too and crashed my laptop 5 times before I could actually play.

Scripting: 7/10
There isn't a lot of scripting as far as I could tell, however it all works well. Such as picking your weapons and getting morphed. It works nicely but there could be more dynamic scripting.

Environment: 10/10
One thing that really catches your eye with this game is the outstanding environment. It is incredibly detailed and is super realistic. Its large and dynamic, however this comes at a price; its 14,000 bricks and alot of lag that comes from that. However, once the game has passed the 5 minute mark the lag drops noticeably.

Enjoyment: 7/10
I think this is a heavily-role-playing place. If you like that kind of thing then you can go around with your friends and shoot imaginary things! (I say that but mobs might exist!) Its also a great environment to explore!

Idea: 6/10
The idea has been used countless times before; rescue people who are fending off Zombies. Although this game is fairly creative with its use of rescue methods. Helicopters, Jets, Boats and more!

Gameplay: 7/10
You need to kill Zombies to survive until a rescue vehicle arrives to take you back to the aircraft carrier. Its fun, but theres nothing special about the zombies or the guns. If you are going to rescue people, fly or drive ashore and rescue them, however, theres not much space to land.

Scripting: 4/10
There is little scripting in this game apart from driving a vehicle, but I've seen the same GUI before. The guns work nicely however.

Environment: 5/10
The environment is a bit lack-luster. Its very plain and boring, however the carrier where the rescuers start is very good looking indeed.

Enjoyment: 6/10
This game could be enjoyed if you played with friends or like rescuing people, however I think that little scripting and a boring environment make the game not very enjoyable.
Final Scores
Idea: 8/10 vs 6/10
After the Flash: Sandstorm wins!

Gamplay: 6/10 vs 7/10
Military Rescue Mission wins!

Scripting: 7/10 vs 4/10
After the Flash: Sandstorm wins!

Environment: 10/10 vs 5/10
After the Flash: Sandstorm wins!

Enjoyment: 7/10 vs 6/10
After the Flash: Sandstorm wins!

With 4 wins out of 5, the winner is

After the Flash: Sandstorm!

Tutorial: How to use dialog in games.

Hey guys! Its RobloxianFire2 coming at you with another tutorial. In this tutorial, I will be showing you how you can use dialog to make your games more interesting. Dialog can be used to make NPCs for RPG games where the players can chat to the NPCs to get quests to do. I'm only going to show you the basics of dialog, if you want to get more advanced into the dialogs, you might want to read up on the ROBLOX wiki about it: wiki.roblox.com/.
Lets get started!
We need something to put the dialog into. I'm just going to use a simple 3x3x3 plate like this:

Right, time to insert the dialog. Head up to Insert > Object then click on Dialog.
In the explorer, you should now see the part and beneath it "Dialog".
Now, I am going to show you a bit about the options in the dialog.

First, we have the "InitialPrompt" option. This is what the NPC/brick with the dialog inside it will say when a player clicks on the dialog. For the purpose of this tutorial, I am going to make it say "Hello. Is there anything I can help you with?". To do this, just click the box next to "InitialPrompt" in the dialog and type what you want it to say. So, when you click on the dialog, you should get something like this:

Okay, so we have our dialog. Time to add some choices. To do this, select the dialog in the explorer, head up to Insert > Object then select "DialogChoice".
Lets go over some of the options.

UserDialog is the choices the player gets to choose from once the dialog has finished. When the player clicks on a choice, the ResponseDialog is what the thing with the dialog will say. In my case, I've made the player say "Who are you"? Once the player has selected the option, the brick will say "I'm Mr.Brick. I am part of ROBLOX. I am here to give information to new players like you."

So, that is basically it. If there is anything I've forgot, please tell me in the comments. ;)

I hope you guys have enjoyed this particular tutorial, my name is RobloxianFire2 and I suppose I bid you all farewell!
Thank you so much for reading!

Lack of posts

Yes, another apology! I am sorry for the lack of posts recently but I have exams coming up and so I can't devote as much time to the site as I'd like. There will be a ROBLOX Review out today and RobloxianFire2 assures me he will be posting again soon.

Please bear with us!

ROBLOX Reviews: ROBLOX Base Wars FPS vs Ro-Planes 2

Edition #13

Welcome to another edition of ROBLOX Reviews! I'm running out of things to say here so lets get straight onto the reviews!

Idea: 7/10
Its not that original, but this game made by Games (Owned by ROBLOX) puts a nice twist on classic CTFs on ROBLOX. First of all there are classes and they are really fun to play! The game doesn't lag at all thanks to it all being made out of terrain. Its very detailed and shows off what you can make with terrain.

Gameplay: 8/10
The map is fairly large and fun to explore and fight in. There are 5 different classes each with different weapons and stats. My favourite was the medic, who can heal people in a Team Fortress 2 style.

Scripting: 9/10
There is a fair amount of high quality scripting in this game. The guns are well scripted and so is the leaderboards, capture points and classes. It all works really well.

Environment: 9/10
Like I touched on earlier, this game is made entirely out of terrain. It certainly is very detailed however it could be more detailed using actual bricks, but this still is a great environment for a great game in general!

Enjoyment: 8/10
This game is very enjoyable and I think the great Environment, Scripting and general execution of the idea makes it that way.

Idea: 9/10
On face value this game seems to just be a flight simulator. But when you enter the game you realise it is much more. Essentially you load your plane with crates which you can then sell for money at islands. This money then enables you to fly bigger planes with bigger capacity (one assumes)

Gameplay: 7/10
The game falls down immediately with its game play. Its incredibly confusing to a newcomer. After a few minutes I found out what I had to do, by chance I found the crates. However, flying was a different matter. I never left the beginning island, it was too hard to fly. My controls failed

Scripting: 7/10
The scripting in the game is very good from picking up crates and taking them to your plane to the controls of the plane. However, some of the controls on the plane didn't do what they were supposed to. The A and D keys did not turn my plane so I ended up crashing into a building opposite the hangar and exploding.

Environment: 6/10
As I said, I haven't seen all the environments because it was so hard to fly! However, the first Island is fairly boring with just bricks to create mountains etc. It seems to be a very old way of building, with just bricks and no c-framing

Enjoyment: 6/10
This game could be very enjoyable at the start, where you are delivering cargo and making money. However, going back and forth would be fairly repetitive. However, making money means you can buy access to bigger planes and this advancement in the game might make you play for longer.

FINAL SCORES

Idea: 7/10 vs 9/10
Ro-Planes 2 wins!
Gameplay: 8/10 vs 7/10
ROBLOX Base Wars FPS wins!
Scripting: 9/10 vs 7/10
ROBLOX Base Wars FPS wins!
Environment: 9/10 vs 6/10
ROBLOX Base Wars FPS wins!
Enjoyment: 8/10 vs 6/10
ROBLOX Base Wars FPS wins!

So with a total of 4 wins out of 5, the overall winner is:

ROBLOX Base Wars FPS!

Tutorial: How to make a dancefloor.

Hello everyone and welcome to my 3rd tutorial. In this tutorial, I will be showing you how to make a dancefloor using some bricks and a simple script. Although it may sound hard, trust me, its not.

To start, we're going to need ROBLOX studio, like we did in my previous tutorial. I will not go over how to do it again because it would be a waste of time. To see how, check out my previous tutorial.
Once we're in ROBLOX Studio, we need to open a place. Go to your places and choose one to build the dancefloor in then click on "Edit".
Once we're in the place, we now need to get everything ready. For this tutorial, I will be using 17 5x5 bricks for the dancefloor. It doesn't matter about the color as they will be changing all the time with the script we will add later.
Right now, it should be like this:

Next, we need to add the script to make them flash. To do this, we will need to create a script in one of the bricks. Once we have got a script inside a brick, we need to copy this inside it:

while true do
script.Parent.BrickColor = BrickColor.random()

wait(1)
end

Once we have this script in one brick, we need to copy it into all the other bricks.
Just exit out of the script editor and select the script. Next, just press CTRL+C on your keyboard to copy it onto your clipboard.
Once we have the script copied, we need to paste it into the other bricks. Just right-click on each of the bricks individually and click the "Paste into" option to paste the script into the brick.

Once we have all the bricks with the script inside, we now need to test! If the script works, every brick should change a different color each second.
If the end result doesn't work like this, repeat all the steps again to see if that works.

I hope you guys have enjoyed this tutorial. Be sure to look out for more in the coming days! =)
Until next time, happy BLOXing!

Contest: Best Picture Taker.

Yes, its that time! Time for a contest. This contest will be focused around picture taking as, after all, I am a graphics designer.
What I need you to do is to find a good place on ROBLOX that you'll think could get you the prize for the best picture taker. There are some rules though.

Rules

1. No sharing pictures with others to get others to win. This means giving people your pictures that YOU took. This is classed as cheating and if found, you will be disqualified.

2. Make sure your in a relatively good place to take a picture in. A picture with tons of people in the shot will not give a clear understanding of what the place is about.

3. If you edit the picture, don't edit it so it looks better than it did by adding stuff such as more scenery. This is classed as cheating.

To enter this contest, all you have to do is take a picture which follows the rules above and then send it to me on twitter using the hashtag "robloxiatodaypicturecontest". For example, the tweet would look like this:

@rbx_rf2 [[IMAGE]] #robloxiatodaypicturecontest

I haven't decided on a prize yet but as the contest progresses, I'm sure I'll think of something. The contest ends in 3 weeks. (Wednesday 7th March).

Good luck!

Today's Tip: How to earn more money.

Hi! Here is something new for you today. Nearly every week, I will try to post at least one or two tips. This one is how to earn more money.
The easiest way to earn money is to create good places that are original and will make people want to play it. Here are a few tips to making a successful game:

  • Keep the brick count to at least under 2000.
  • Make it original.
  • Make the map size just right for the game.
  • Lock and anchor your terrain.
If you follow those tips, you'll be able to make an effective game. But, that is not all. For more tips on how to make a good game, click here.

The second way to earn money is to make and sell clothes. Many people such as VendettaTheGreat and Sheeppie make their money by selling clothes. But not any old clothes. They put time and effort into their clothes to make it stand out. Here is a few tips to making clothes stand out:
  • Use an original design.
  • Don't copy others.
If you follow those tips, you'll be making your clothes stand out from others meaning people would want to buy yours more.

I hope I helped you with these tips. If I did, feel free to tell me in the comments section or on ROBLOX. My name is RobloxianFire2.

See yah next time! :)

Site Upgrade - 14/02/2012.

Hi! Today, you may have noticed a change that has been happening over the last 10 minutes before this being posted. This is where I have been changing labels for posts. Now, in every post, a label will be added to correspond to what the post is about. For example, if I posted a hat review, the label would be "Hat Review". If I posted a tutorial, the label would be "Tutorial". If you have any questions about this upgrade, please feel free to post them in the comments below. ;)

Tutorial: How to install plugins.

Oh hello there! Welcome to my second tutorial. Before I start, I would like to say a very big sorry. The reason behind this is that I haven't been posting much as I wanted to. From now on, I PROMISE to try post at least once or twice a week. Now, on with the tutorial. In this tutorial, I will be showing you how to install plugins.
Plugins is a feature that ROBLOX implemented a little while ago, in around November time. What this allows you to do is to use scripting to do certain things which could take some time without a plugin. For example, CFraming in studio. This would take quite a while because before plugins came along, you had to use the command bar to cframe. Believe it or not, plugins are VERY easy to install. Just follow these steps and you'll be doing it in no time. ;)

Step 1
The first thing to do is to open up ROBLOX Studio. To do this, click on the start menu, head to all programs, find ROBLOX and click on ROBLOX Studio. Another way to do this is to open the start menu and type in the search bar "ROBLOX Studio".
Searching For ROBLOX Studio.

Step 2
The second thing to do is, once you have ROBLOX Studio open, go to Tools > Open Plugins Folder
This will open your plugins folder. Another way to open the plugins folder is to, on a windows 7 computer, search for C:\Users\YOUR_COMPUTER_USERNAME\AppData\Local\Roblox\plugins. Obviously, replace YOUR_COMPUTER_USERNAME with the actual username your logged into the computer with. I'm logged in as "Liam" so I'd do C:\Users\Liam\AppData\Local\Roblox\plugins.
Inside the plugins folder.

Step 3
Once you are inside your plugins folder, you are now ready to actually install plugins. To do this, you must have some plugins to install. I suggest going to either ironnoob.com and finding the roblox section of the forums or searching the internet for some. But, whilst searching for plugins through google or anything, be aware that not all plugins are legit. Some people get them and then put viruses in them. If you do download a plugin that you do not think is legit, scan the files with an anti-virus. Once you have downloaded a plugin, if it came in a .zip format, unzip it. A great place to find good plugins could be from Crazyman32's website: http://crazyman32.weebly.com/plugins.html
Step 4
Once you have unzipped it, open the folder that is created from the zip being extracted. If there is another folder inside that folder, check if there is anything inside. If there is files inside such as an icon and a .lua file, go back to that folder by clicking the back button and then drag it into the plugins folder.
Step 5
To test if you have installed the plugin correctly, close and reopen ROBLOX studio and then open a blank place. If you have installed the plugin correctly, you should see the icon that was in the folder along with the .lua file. If not, follow these steps again and see if that works.

I hope I helped you with this tutorial! If you have any problems, post them in the comments below or message me on ROBLOX, my username is RobloxianFire2.
Remember, I will be posting tutorials like this around every week so keep checking back. ;)
Thanks for reading!!!

ROBLOX Reviews: Nacht Der Untoten vs COR5- Roblox At War: The Zombies!

Edition #12
Hello and welcome to ROBLOX Reviews! Today is another special edition, and we will be reviewing two versions of Zombies, from Call of Duty. Lets crack on!

Idea: 7/10
The idea isn't strictly original, its based on Call of Duty yet it plays well on ROBLOX and feels original.

Gameplay: 8/10
The gameplay is very good, you shoot the zombies with guns. The first few guns feel fairly unresponsive but I think they would require some upgrading to become powerful. There are many upgrades and the game goes in rounds, with each becoming harder until a team loses.

Scripting: 8/10
The scripting in this game is very good also. There are some nice GUIs and the zombies have some very well scripted AIs. The core game is also scripted well too with rounds that get harder and it appears that there are some random events where you can get powerups. One of these happened while I was playing called "insta-kill". One can only imagine it made zombies die with one hit.

Environment: 7/10
The environment seems a bit lack-luster in the game. Everything is very white even though its night outside! It seems to be a big environment but it hasn't got alot of good detail.

Enjoyment: 6/10
This game for me, got boring after a few minutes because it does not seem very responsive in terms of guns. The early guns are very bad. Also, when I was trying to revive someone, the instructions that I got did not work. However, this game would be very fun if you were playing with friends because you would have to stick together to give each other support and stop them from dying!

Idea: 7/10
I don't really think I can give this game any more or less than I gave the other, it is a clone of COD's Zombies but is also executed nicely with some originality in there.

Gameplay: 10/10
The gameplay in this game is very well done, everything works well, looks nice and even the early weapons are good. Its upgrades are cool too! Fog really gives it an atmosphere! It re-creates the COD Zombies feel really well.

Scripting: 9/10
There is alot of scripting in this place. But that isn't the point of this marking point. Its whether or not the quality is good. Here it is. It works amazingly and makes the game what it is, from leaderboards to repairing windows.

Environment: 9/10
The environment here is very good and feels like the COD map. It also looks a bit more intresting than the place I reviewed first

Enjoyment: 8/10
This game is alot more responsive but alot harder, even at round 3! However, it still is really fun to play and might make you stay a bit longer than the first place and if you play with friends you could play for ages!

Final Scores
Idea: 7/10 vs 7/10
Tie!
Gameplay: 8/10 vs 10/10
COR5- Roblox At War: The Zombies! wins!
Scripting: 8/10 vs 9/10
COR5- Roblox At War: The Zombies! wins!
