Game Reviews: Murder Mystery vs Murder

The Mad Murderer fought off Twisted Murderer in last weeks Game Review battle and will be reviewed against the winner of this review in a battle for the Best Murder Game title by ROBLOXia Today. So lets crack on!

MURDER MYSTERY by Nikilis
Note: This game was broken when I played - I couldn't join the game and was stuck on "waiting for character" for around 10 minutes. This review is from memory and no points will be deducted for the game being broken as I'm unsure if its a ROBLOX or Nikilis problem.

Idea: 7/10
Murder Mystery was the first Murder game on ROBLOX that got very popular very quickly, and although its copied from a GMod gamemode this game was original when it came to ROBLOX games.

Gameplay: 7/10
The gameplay here is fun: Its simple too. There are no complicated modes its just 1 Murderer, 1 Sheriff and the rest innocents. There is some customisation although its not a lot but the variety of maps means this game will keep people playing - especially as they wait for their murderer chance to increase!
Environment: 6/10
The environments in this game are varied but very basic. They lack much detail and although you could argue it adds to the charm of the game, I'd like to see some more detailed maps in this game.

Enjoyment: 9/10
This game is very enjoyable. Its so satisfying killing the murderer or the innocents or just running and trying to hide from the Murderer. Nikilis has made this into a very enjoyable game and unlike Murder which I'll review next, it has a large social aspect where people are also discussing who they think the murderer is in the chat - until they die of course!

Scripting: 8/10
The scripting here is well done but the game doesn't look as polished as Murder. Guis in the lobby are on the wall as SurfaceGuis and this just doesn't look as good as the Guis in Clonetrooper1019's game. However everything works well, including the map rotation which players can vote on.

MURDER by CloneTrooper1019

Idea: 5/10
The idea here is of course, unoriginal but is perhaps the truest to the actual GMod gamemode. Everything here is similar including some of the maps and the character customisation is unrivalled in the Murder games world.

Gameplay: 7/10
The gameplay here is fairly satisfying and the gun noises are really satisfying too. In addition to this theres some sounds straight from the GMod gamemode that you can access by pressing q. This is a neat little feature and adds to the polish that this game has. The gameplay here though is limited with few game modes although it would appear that more are coming soon - and some may already exist but I never saw any.
Murder also has two big differences to other games: Bystanders can have guns and you can collect props from around the maps - get 5 and you get a gun.

Environment: 8/10
The environments here are very carefully constructed and look really good. They are true to the GMod maps (if they are from GMod) and otherwise they are very nice. I really liked the re-purposing of Carentan in this game.

Enjoyment: 5/10
There is one major downfall to Murder and is this - it isn't very atmospheric and no-one ever speaks. Although I was in a server of only 3 people at one point, I've played this game before and its very rare anyone speaks and the only sounds you hear are of guns. Its very anti-social and thats something that other Murder games are better at.
Another criticism I have of this game is that there is no map rotation. You have to leave the game and rejoin the hub to get to another map. I'd like to see map voting at the end of a round and although the system as it currently is maybe something to do with the lag of loading these maps - it does mean you have to waste time leaving and rejoining games.
The gameplay was pretty fun though and brings up this score to a 5.

Scripting: 9/10
There is some wonderful scripting in this game and its very polished. The hub's GUI is very well scripted and 3D thumbnails - although pointless - are a nice touch.
